We publish English translations of two reports of activities in Finland.
International Women’s Day 2023 in Tampere
Revolutionaries were again active on the occasion of international women’s day in Tampere. Approaching the day, there were graffiti actions of which we also publish pictures that we received.
Culmination was a broad demonstration that incorporated, among others, Russian anti-war activists. The demonstration, which was advertised with hundreds of posters, demanded “more pay!”, “down with the cost of living!”, “against patriarchy!”. Revolutionaries held high the banner and shout “forward towards a revolutionary women’s movement!”, and spread the joint declaration of Nordic revolutionary movements. Common slogans in the march included “down with the imperialist war and rising prices!”, “down with misogyny!”, “woman, life, freedom!”, “for an international women’s movement!”, “wave upon wave, blow after blow, against imperialism and patriarchy!”, “end to the violence against women!”.
At the end of the demonstration there were speeches from the organizers, like Solidarity with Women of Iran, Marxist Study Circle of Tampere and the Communist Youth, and there was also a salutation from the rank-and-file of the trade-union movement.
Helsinki: Women’s Day Demonstration
More than a hundred people participated into a demonstration in Helsinki on the occasion of the international women’s day, 8th of March. The organizers of the demonstration included the women or youth organizations of the parliamentary leftist parties, emigrant groups and non-governmental organizations. The main slogans of the demonstration were the Apoist “Women, life, freedom!” (in both Finnish and English) and, related to burning economic demands, “Down with the cost of living!” and “More pay!”. In the demonstration there was also expressed opposition to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
“Party politics” was prohibited from the event, so the speeches could not refer to the parliamentary elections that will take place in less than one month. However, among the speakers, there were electoral candidates, and also the Green Alliance had an electoral pop-up at the starting point of the demonstration.
A small Marxist contingent participated in the demonstration with a banner “Down with imperialism! Down with patriarchy! Proletarian feminism for Communism!” and a placat “¡Honor y gloria a la camarada Norah!”. It was also reported that the joint declaration of the Anti-imperialist League (Finland), Anti-imperialist Collective (Denmark) and Struggle Committee (Norway) was distributed as a leaflet and was received positively by the masses.
